Tagua nut, known as "vegetable ivory", is a sustainable and eco-friendly substitute for elephant ivory. The nuts are harvested from the rainforest floors of South America, then hand-carved and polished by Fair Trade artisans in Ecuador. Each of this pieces are handmade and they have an approximate size that ranges from 1.75 inches to 3.0 inches depending on the animal and the shape it was carved in. Because these are handmade, they may vary from those pictured.
